NDE commences training of 1,320 unemployed youth, women in Kano

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced the training of 1,320 unemployed youths and women across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State.

Declaring the training open on Thursday in Kano, the NDE State Coordinator, Alhaji Iliyasu Ahmed, said it was aimed at providing employment opportunities for women and youth in the state.

Ahmed added that the training was also aimed at creating wealth and reducing poverty, so as to tackle the menace of youth restiveness and other vices.

“It is my great honour to welcome you all to this occasion when 1,320 unemployed, unskilled youths will be trained in different trades of their choice.

“The training is under the NDE’s numerous training schemes.

“It may interest you to know that the NDE has, for over three decades, trained and impacted marketable skills to hundreds of thousands Nigerian youths in line with her vision to create a pool of skillful citizenry for self employment and self reliance,” he said.

According to him, the efforts to spread the programme to rural areas reflected the commitment of Dr. Nasir Muhammad, the NDE Director-General, to ensure the beneficiaries are evenly selected across the local government areas.

He called on the selected beneficiaries to abide by the NDE criteria to ensure they successfully completed the programme.

While calling on them to utilise the opportunity to better their lives , the coordinator urged the beneficiaries to supply the right bank account details when asked to do so.

Ahmed explained that at the end of the six months training, beneficiaries would be provided with capital to establish their businesses, adding that NDE would follow up to ensure that the capital was used for that purpose.

In an Interview with the Nigeria News Agency , one of the beneficiaries, Malama Jamila Jibrin from Tarauni Local Government Area, commended the NDE for the training, saying she would utilise the opportunity to better her life.

“I will make sure that at the end of my training, which is on hair dressing, I will establish my own business to make me self reliant, and i will engage other youths so that they can benefit from it,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Mukhtar Garba from Dala Local Government, also said he would use the opportunity to engage himself and be self employed.

Garba, who enrolled for ICT training, commended the Federal Government and the NDE for the opportunity.

“We had participated in various empowerment programmes by other organisations, but at the end, they failed.

“With what we are seeing now, we have more confidence that our dream will become real,” he said.

NAN reports that the participants would undergo training in automobile engineering , tailoring, hairdressing, barbing, cosmetics making, among others
