NDE trains 690 youths in Sokoto



The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), on Thursday began the training of 690 youth and women in Sokoto, under its vocational and skill acquisition programme.

The State Coordinator, Mrs Eunice Danmallam, made the disclosure at the inauguration of the training exercise in Sokoto.

Danmallam disclosed that the youth would undergo a 12-week training exercise under the Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B-NOAS), while 50 others under the School on Wheel scheme (SOW).

Danmallam explained that the trainees were encouraged to select trade of their choice, noting that the directorate offered training in over 80 specialized areas.

She said that the directorate would pay N2, 000 monthly stipend to each of the trainees, as transportation allowances to encourage punctuality.

The coordinator added that the trainees were drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state, as part of the Federal Government’s empowerment and entrepreneurial development drive.

Danmallam said that: “The training is designed to expose the youth to trades and acquire skills, to enable them to become self-reliant, employers of labour and contribute to the social and economic development of the society”.

While calling on the trainees to avail themselves the opportunities to acquire skills, Danmallam reiterated the commitment of the agency to impart relevant knowledge and skills to the youth to enable them become productive.

Also speaking, Abdullahi Bafarawan-Gabas, an entrepreneur, urged the youth to pay attention to the training exercise.

Bafarawan-Gabas commended the gesture, adding that it would go a long way to address unemployment in the country.

Some of the trainees, Hauwa’u Yahaya and Buhari Umar, lauded the gesture and promised to be dedicated during the training exercise.
