The North-East Commodity Associations (NECAS) on Saturday inaugurated 150 units of tractors with complete implements to boost agricultural activities in Gombe State.

During the inauguration in Gombe, Gov. Inuwa Yahaya commended NECAS for its commitment to improving agricultural production as the main source of livelihood for a large section of the population.

Yahaya, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Manassah Jatau, said that agriculture would  remain one of the cardinal priorities of Gombe State Government.

He urged farmers who obtained loans to pay back their loans to enable more farmers to benefit.

“Today’s occasion further demonstrates the association’s commitment to promote agricultural mechanisation for improved agricultural yield,” he said.

Alhaji Sadik Daware, the National Chairman of NECAS, said the association was fully accredited by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to provide support for farmers.

He said the provision of the tractors would improve optimal yield, create direct and indirect jobs for the youth by engaging operators, mechanics and spare-part vendors.

Daware said NECAS acquired 600 units of tractors for the region and allocated 150 to Gombe State.

He said “ the tractors will be distributed in batches. The 50 we are giving today are the first tranche while the remaining will come soon.

Daware urged good partnership with Gombe State Government to enable the association to  do well.

In his remarks, the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, thanked CBN for supporting NECAS in boosting agricultural activities.
