Kafin-Hausa (Jigawa) The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the distribution of farm inputs to 6,000 victims of 2018 flood in Kafin-hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa.

Distributing the inputs on Wednesday, NEMA’s Distribution Supervisor, Mr. Olarewaju Kazir, said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the effect of the disaster  that had befallen them.

He said each of the victims, who were predominantly farmers, would receive 40 kg bag of rice and maize, a sprayer, one bottle of pesticide and herbicide.

Kazir said nine bags of fertilizer would subsequently be given to each of the farmers, if they showed evidence that they would utilise the inputs and not sell same.

The supervisor cautioned the farmers against selling the inputs, saying that doing so would jeopardize government’s efforts at  job creation and ensuring food security.

Responding, some of the victims, Yahaya Gabaru and Musa Mohammad, who jointly spoke at the occasion, thanked government for the assistance and promised to utilise the inputs for the purpose they were meant.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that flooding in the state last year claimed 21 lives and ravaged over 200 communities.
