The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Thursday distributed assorted farm inputs to over 1,000 farmers in Fune Local Government Area of the state.

Alhaji Mustapha Maihajja, NEMA Director General, said the agency provided the support to farmers under the Agricultural Emergency Intervention programme.

The Director General, who was represented by Mr Akiode Saheed, said a total of 11,000 farmers would benefit from the programme to improve agricultural production in Yobe this cropping season.

Mustapha said the programme would also assist beneficiaries to recover their means of livelihood due to the security challenges suffered across the state.

“The programme has identified and provided the agricultural input based on the peculiarities of every benefiting community and supported them with their needs,“ the DG said.

Dr Mohammed Goje, Executive Secretary SEMA, said the beneficiaries had been carefully selected to ensure that only genuine farmers benefit from the programme.

“We are working tirelessly to ensure that the package goes to the right people and used for the purposes intended.

“The state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has tasked us to ensure that the supports were given to the right persons to aid their rehabilitation and recovery.

“The governor’s message is very clear, you should use these inputs on your farms and resist the temptation of selling them off.”

Goje said a monitoring mechanism had been put in place to check diversion and possible disposal of the packages.

The Secretary said a package of improved rice, sorghum, beans seeds, and herbicides were distributed to every beneficiary.

“We are also expecting delivery of fertilizer from NEMA very soon; every beneficiary is expected to have five bags of 50kg each,” he said.

Alhaji Adamu Adamu, a retired immigration officer and beneficiary, commended NEMA and SEMA for the support.
