Osogbo, Feb. 22,2019 The Federation  of Informal Workers’ Organisation of Nigeria (FIWON), an NGO, has appealed to Nigerians to shun any act that could plunge the country into ethno-political violence.

The Osun State Coordinator of FIWON, Mr Ibrahim Olayinka, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Osogbo.

Olayinka said: “The present political situation in the country necessitates enlightenment of both the electorate as well as contestants.

“We need to let voters and contestants, participating in the coming election know that politics is not a do-or-die affair.

“ We must be enlightened on the need to avoid any form of election and post-election violence, “he said.

Ibrahim said FIWON had organised several seminars, to educate stakeholders on the need for peaceful and credible election.

Olayinka called on INEC to conduct free fair and credible election, to show the world that Nigeria had got it right despite the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, earlier fixed for Feb.16.

He also urged security agencies to ensure that no breach of public peace throughout the election periods and after the exercise.

Olayinka also called on political stakeholders to lend support to the electoral process for  the overall success of the forthcoming elections.
