North-east rehabilitation: FG to reach out to 12,000 farmers, vulnerable in Adamawa




Yola, April 24, 2019 ( NNN) No fewer than 12,000 farmers and the vulnerable affected by insurgency in seven local government areas of Adamawa are to benefit from the Federal Government’s North East Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project in 2019.

Mr Maurice Vunobolki, the Coordinator of the Project in Adamawa, disclosed this on Wednesday in Yola.

He was speaking during a one-day stakeholders meeting to prepare for distribution of non-food items to the affected seven local areas.

Vunobolki gave the names of the affected areas as Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, Maiha, Song and Gombi Local Government Areas.

The project coordinator said the aim of the meeting was to strategise and plan how the interventions would effectively be implemented.

He said, “Federal Government through the North East Multi Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) had prepared to reach out to over 12,000 farmers and other vulnerable in Adamawa.

“The project was designed for the recovery and livelihood support of the communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

“In Adamawa, about 9,500 farmers had been identified to benefit from agric. livelihood support kits and about 2, 520 vulnerable to be empowered with small scale entrepreneurial tools and materials.”

Vunobolki said the non-food items to be distributed to the vulnerable included carpentry, sewing and other small entrepreneur equipment.

He said under the project, there was special investment on reconstruction and rehabilitation of destroyed primary and secondary schools, hospitals, primary healthcare centres and roads, among other.

The project coordinator said that over 100 primary and secondary schools as well as hospitals and primary healthcare centres would be rehabilitated.

He further said the non-food items had already been stockpiled and were ready to be distributed to the beneficiaries in the affected areas.
