NPHCDA donates equipment, essential drugs to Kano hospital

National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has donated drugs and hospital equipment to

Unguwar Gini Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State to honour a staff.

The Executive Director of the agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, while briefing the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi ll in Kano on Thursday,

said that the gesture was part of NPHCDA’s initiative tagged “Giving Back to the Community.”

According to him, the initiative is to appreciate the selfless contributions of staff of the centre toward the attainment of NPHCDA’s mandates.

He said that “civil servants are rarely honoured for their professionalism, commitments and dedication to official responsibilities.

“At NPHCDA, we recognised the sterling qualities of staff and we are here to honour one of your own in the person of Dr Laila Umar-Ibrahim,

a senior medical officer in Community Health Service Department.”

He added that the entire management and the staff of the agency were happy with the Emir of Kano, Dr Laila Umar-Ibrahim’s family and

the community that groomed her.

He noted that “the doctor’s educational background and upbringing equipped her for the very important role she played.”

According to him, Dr Laila is one of the pioneer staff in the development and implementation of Community Health Influencers and Services (CHIPS)

programme, working with government, partners and donors to improve demand for services in the primary health care space.

“More recently, following the declaration of the state of emergency on Maternal and Child Health, Dr Laila moved to the National Emergency

Maternal and Child Health Intervention Centre (NEMCHIC).

“She had been a great backbone to the operations of the centre, established to improve child and maternal wellbeing.”

In his response, Emir Sanusi commended the management of NPHCDA for selecting her for the honour.

He said that if such honour was accorded to those who deserved it, civil servants would be more committed to their responsibilities.

Dr Umar-Ibrahim thanked NPHCDA management for the honour, adding that the gesture

would further encourage her and other staff to be more dedicated and committed to their duties.

Nigeria News Agency reports that no fewer than 59 different kinds of essential drugs and 41 different hospital

equipment were donated to the centre by NPHCDA.
