The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo Command, says no fewer than 700 personnel have been deployed for the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

Mr Makinde Ayinla, the State Commandant of the Corps, disclosed this on Wednesday in Benin during a media chat.

Ayinla also disclosed that sniffer dogs had been deployed.

He gave the assurance that in spite of the uncertain security situation in the country adequate preparation had been put in place to protect critical areas such as places of worship and markets.

Other areas, he said the personnel had been deployed include, motor parks, shopping malls, recreational centres, schools and other places considered to be soft targets for attack by criminal elements.

He, however, called on citizens to be extra vigilant and security conscious at all times and appealed to citizens to report strange movements and objects to security personnel.

He stressed that the corps was prepared to protect all critical national assets such as telecommunication masts, power equipment and oil and gas pipelines among others.

He further said that the command would ensure effective collaboration and synergy with other sister security agencies in guaranteeing a hitch-free Sallah celebration.

Ayinla also said that in addition to the deployment of personnel and sniffer dogs, personnel of specialised unit such as SWAT, the surveillance monitoring team, ambulance and rescue officers would be deployed to critical areas.

According to him, they will protect critical national assets and infrastructure as well as create secured environment for both travellers and non travellers alike during the Sallah celebration.
