NUJ commends Plateau Govt. over remodeling of Press Centre

The Plateau Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the State Government for awarding contract for the remodeling of its Press Centre.

Chairman of the council, Mr Paul Jatau, made the commendation in an interview with Nigeria News Agency in Jos on Wednesday.

NAN reports that the state government had in November 2019 awarded contract worth N33.9 million to restructure the union’s press centre which had been an eyesore over the years.

The project which had since commenced is expected to be completed in March.

The chairman expressed his excitement over the ongoing project, stating that the gesture would lead to greater working relationships between the union and government.

“We will like to commend the governor for this gesture, because out of the many that had come, no one has thought it wise to rebuild this place for journalists.

“We the journalists appreciate this, we will now be able to do our work in a very good atmosphere and also relax in a good place.

“Over the years the press centre has been deserted but with this gesture, life will return and journalists will find this place attractive again.

“The restructuring of this building will lead to greater things for the union and the government,” he said.

Jatau commended the contractor for the speed of work and use of quality materials.

Mr Peter Amine, State Secretary of the Union, said that the restructured centre would come with a modern Library, Kitchen, Eatery, shops, parameter fence and other modern facilities.

Amine appealed to members of the union displaced by the ongoing work to be patient as the building would soon be ready for use once again.
