NYSC wants Zamfara Govt to renovate orientation camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to the Zamfara Government to renovate and expand the orientation camp in Tsafe, to enhance the activities of the scheme in the state.

Mr Dahunsi Muhammad, the State NYSC Coordinator, made the appeal at the closing of the orientation course of Batch “B“ Stream Two corps members on Monday in Tsafe.

“We are appealing to Zamfara Government to look into the expansion and renovation of this orientation camp.

“Majority of facilities in this camp need total renovation and expansion; some of the structures are dilapidated and abandoned more than 10 years ago.

“We don’t have enough hostels for both corps members and staff; as we all know the accommodation is one of the major factors considered by the NYSC headquarters before sending the corps members.

“We need modern kitchen; our kitchen is seriously dilapidated, in fact, even secondary schools cannot use it as a kitchen,” he said.

The NYSC coordinator said that he had conducted the representative of Gov. Bello Matawalle, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya, who is also the Speaker of the Zamfara House of Assembly round some abandoned project sites at the camp.

“We also face serious challenges as regards power supply; we are facing serious power outage in this camp. In fact, when this camp started three weeks ago, we only saw light twice.

“Despite the huge amount of money we paid to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), our generator almost worked throughout the orientation camp, “he said.’

Earlier, Matawalle urged corps members to be dedicated and transparent throughout their service year.

“You should feel free as if you are in your respective homes; the state government has adopted various measures to improve your welfare.

“We have already directed the local government authorities, traditional rulers and village heads to give you a rousing wellcome and fully integrate you in their midst so that you can achieve your optimal best,” he said.

The governor, who later inspected the camp facilities, said that the state government would do more to upgrade the camp facilities. (NAN)
