A new football outfit, Ratcom Football Club, which will ply its trade in the Nationwide League Division Three, has been unveiled in the state.

A former Special Assistant on Sports Matters in the state, Alhaji Toyin Olokoba, while unveiling the club, also instituted an U-18 football competition.

Olokoba said the competition would be a platform for discovering and grooming players for Ratcom Football Club and other clubs in the state.

Tagged ‘Unity Cup’, Olokoba said that the competition would unite all stakeholders in the aftermath of the recently concluded State FA elections.

While calling for total support for the current FA board headed by Alhaji Idris Musa, he said that the U-18 football competition would complement the efforts of the FA, especially at the grassroots.

Olokoba, who is also the Chairman of Ilorin East Football Council, would be the chairman of the six-man management team for the new club.

Ashifat Yusuf would serve as the Secretary of the Club while Moshood Morawo was named Welfare Officer.

Olokoba also named Mustapha Olokode as the Head Coach of the team, adding that he would work in the technical department with Coach Manzuma Maleek, the Assistant Coach.

The Secretary of the Club Owners Association, Alloy Chukwuemeka, while commending Olokoba for the initiative, urged the State FA to introduce programmes that would entrench strong football culture in the state.

Reacting to the development, Musa commended Olokoba for his show of maturity and for creating additional platforms for the youths in the state.

He said the FA had visited some local governments, identified facilities, sought the support of traditional rulers and other stakeholders and had also signed a partnership deal with Owu Sports wear.

These initiatives, he said, was all in the bid to add value to football development in the state.

The State Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem, urged local councils to organise grassroots tournaments.
