A professor of Applied Communication in the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, Prof. Ayobami Ojebode, on Monday said the war against insurgency in Nigeria can only be won with synergy among security agencies.

Ojebode stated this during the 2019 Operational Planning Cadre training for junior officers organised by the 2 Division of Nigerian Army, Odogbo, Ibadan.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that Ojebode delivered a lecture entitled: “The  Need for Synergy Among Security Agencies in Combating Insurgency in Nigeria.”

Ojebode said the war against insurgency in Nigeria would have been won long ago if there was synergy among security agencies.

He said that security agencies must ensure that synergy existed because the absence of it would spell doom for the nation.

If there is synergy, losses in terms of human and materials resources would be minimal while trust and mutual respect would exist.

Working together has worked in the past in some instances such as the Operation Swift Response and Inter-border Crimes.

Working together is like pulling the strength of the agencies together and with this, what they could not achieve separately would be achieved within a short period.

So, synergy is key for the success of the war against insurgency,” Ojebode said.

Earlier,General Officer Commanding (GOC), Maj-Gen. Anthony Omozoje, said the training would rekindle the role of participants especially now that the nation was facing a lot of challenges.

Omozoje, represented by Brig-Gen. Koko Isoni, Chief of Staff, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, said the training would help build the capacity of officers in the discharge of their duties.

Training plays a vital role in the growth and development of any organisation especially the military,” he said.

On his part, Brig-Gen. Kennedy Osenwegie, Commander, 52 Signal Brigade, said that the training was to train young officers in the planning and execution of operations in order to improve on their required skills.
