Opposition party in Philippines accused of anti-Duterte conspiracy

However, members of the opposition Liberal Party denied allegations that they were working with other groups in the campaign against the Duterte administration.

“It seems they are the ones discrediting us and not the other way around.

“We deny any plot against the administration,’’ Erin Tanada, a senatorial candidate for the Liberal Party, said.

Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said intelligence reports showed the Liberal Party was working with the Magdalo political party, a group of former soldiers, various media organisations and supporters of former president Benigno Aquino.

“The president himself has received information, intelligence information that has been validated.

“It appears to show that there is a deliberate attempt to discredit this administration as well as to boost the candidacies of the opposition’s senatorial candidates,’’ he told newsmen.

Mar Roxas, another senatorial candidate and a leader of the Liberal Party, merely laughed at the latest accusation.

“They’ve gone mad, I can’t help but laugh at these accusations,’’ he told newsmen.
