The Plateau chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), has commended the state government, for the timely release of fertilisers at subsidised rates to farmers in the state.

Mr. John Wuyep, the Chairman of the association, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Jos.

NAN recalls that the state government in May launched the sale of fertilisers at subsidised rates to farmers in the state.

According to Wuyep, the gesture would enhance production of crops, ensure higher yields and boost agricultural activities in the state.

He added that the timely distribution of fertilisers and other farming inputs would improve agriculture and boost the economy of the state.

“We wish to commend the state government for the timely distribution of fertilisers and other farming inputs to farmers at subsidised rates.

“We know our governor is farmer-friendly and wish that he continues to make agriculture his priority by giving the sector the desired attention, ” he said.

Wuyep also commended the 17 local government areas in the state for keying into the vision to prioritise agriculture, by making fertilisers available to farmers at the local levels at subsidised rates.

NAN reports that a 50kg bag of NPK 15:15 was sold at N6800; 50kg bag of NPK 20:10 and 50kg bag of Urea at N5,500 each as well as organic fertiliser at N4,500.
