Plateau Nurses association urge Lalong to employ Nurse freed from Boko Haram captivity

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives(NANNM), Plateau chapter, has appealed to Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau to give permanent employment to Jennifer Ukambong Samuel, the Nurse that was freed from Boko Haram captivity.

Mr Tuamlong Agyo, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association, told Nigerian News Agency on Friday in Jos that the gesture would help in cushioning the psychological trauma Samuel experienced while in captivity.

NAN reports that the association had earlier appealed to the governor to lift the embargo on employment, saying it would reduce abductions of many aide workers in the North-East who were mostly from Plateau.

“We want the governor to use his power to give her automatic employment so that she can remain at home here in Jos. Though security challenges are everywhere, yet, you cannot compare the security challenges in Plateau to that in the North-East.

“We want the governor to hasten lifting the embargo on employment so that our youths in Plateau will be employed instead of going to high security risk areas to seek for jobs,” Agyo said.

He thanked the governor for his concern and also thanked President Buhari, federal lawmakers from Plateau and other well meaning Nigerians for standing with them to secure the release of their colleague.

He also expressed gratitude to the press, saying without them, many people would not have known what happened.

“I am not forgetting the security agencies especially the Department of State Services (DSS), the police and the military for their efforts to ensure the release of our colleague,” the PRO said.

NAN reports that Jennifer Samuel, an aide worker with Alliance for International Medical Action(ALIMA), was abducted alongside four others by Boko Haram terrorists on Dec. 22, 2019 along Mongono Maiduguri road and released on Jan. 15.
