Plumber in court over alleged illegal possession of gun

) A plumber, Toheeb Saka, 26, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court charged with illegal possession of gun.

Saka, who is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and possession of gun, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Mishozumu, the accused  unlawfully had in his possession, a locally-made gun with three unexpended cartridges.

Mishozumu told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large on May 30 at 11 a.m. at J4 area of Seme border in Badagry, Lagos.

“When he was asked by the police how he came about the items or what he intended to do with them, he could not give any satisfactory explanation,” the prosecutor said.

Mishozumu said that the offences contravened Sections 330 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr O.D. Njoku, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Njoku said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and possess evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until July 7.
