Police arraign applicant for absconding with N1.1m




Abuja, April 22, 2019 The police on Wednesday arraigned an applicant, Emmanuel Benjamin, in an Upper Area Court, Mpape for allegedly absconding with N1,1 million belonging to a businessman.

Benjamin, who lives at Tungan-maje, Abuja is charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr N.P Stanley, told the court that the case was reported at the Garki Police station by Mr Uche Omesiete, who lives on No.5, JAMB Quarters in Apo, Abuja.

Stanley told the court that the defendant was entrusted with the money, realised from a property business by the complainant.

He said as soon as the defendant collected the money, he absconded.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

After the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.

The Presiding Judge, Hassan Muhammad, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1. 5 million with two sureties in like sum.

Muhammad ordered that the sureties must be reasonable and reliable.

He adjourned the case until June 28 for hearing.
