Police arraign teenager for allegedly stealing 2 phones



The police on Monday arraigned a 19-year-old, Job Josiah, in a Kabusa Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing two cell phones.

The police charged Job with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that on April 23, Ms. Sophia Christian of Customs Quarters Maraba and Ms. Adewusi Bolu of Orozo reported the matter at the Nyanya Police Station.

Lawal said that the complainants alleged that the defendant on April 19, along with four others, who are at large,  at Area C in Nyanya, snatched the complainants’ phones from them.

The prosecution counsel, said during police investigation, only Job was apprehended as the others escaped.

Lawal said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the defendant, Oladele Badmus, prayed the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms.

The Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N30,000 with one surety in like sum.

Kagarko ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The judge also ordered that the surety must deposit a valid means of identification, as part of the bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until July 26 for trial.
