The police on Thursday arraigned a vagrant, Buba Seidu, who allegedly stole N15,000 from a taxi driver in a Kabusa Grade I Area Court.
Seidu, who lives in Area 1, Section 1, Garki, Abuja, is charged with criminal trespass and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that the complainant, Mr Babalola Oladimeji, who resides at No. 23, Dauda Sule Avenue, Kubwa Extension, Abuja, reported the case at the Garki Police Station, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Aug. 7.
Lawal alleged that Seidu, alongside two others, at large, on Aug. 7, jumped into the complainant’s car at Area 1 Roundabout, claiming to be members of the drivers’ union task force.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant stole the money during the argument that ensued after Oladimeji asked them to get out of his car.
After the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Ibrahim Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 9 for trial.
