Police to recruit special constables into community policing in Kwara

The Kwara Police Command says it will soon commence the recruitment of personnel as special constables into community policing in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, disclosed this on Thursday in Ilorin while speaking at a

one-day multi-stakeholder security dialogue organised by the Kwara Government.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that the theme of the dialogue was: “Towards strengthening the security architecture in Kwara State: Exploring community initiatives”.

Egbetokun said the Inspector General of Police, Mr Adamu, has adopted the philosophy of community policing.

“We will soon start recruiting special constables into the community policing,” he said.

According to him, the command had constituted a committee to look into the community policing among the police and law abiding citizens in the state.

“Police has decided to take policing back to the people, the people will decide how they want to be policed, everybody will take part in it,” the police commissioner added.

Egbetokun said community policing has been in practice in Kwara, hence the reason for the peace and secured environment.

He commended Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his depth of knowledge in security and for organising the dialogue which he said would go a long way to further secure the state.

The police commissioner assured the people that lack of manpower would not deter the police from performing their duties, saying that police and other sister security agencies are working together to make the state secure and free of criminals.

“Lack of manpower will not limit us from discharging our duties; we have the cooperation of our sister security agencies to fight crime,” he assured.
