Kano State has targeted about 3.2 million children below the age of five for the February Immunisation Plus Days against polio.

The state’s Commissioner for Health Dr Ibrahim Tsanyawa, said this on Friday at a news conference on preparations for the immunisation on Friday in Kano.

He said that over 30, 000 personnel have been had been trained and clustered into 12, 000 teams to conduct the three day exercise.

“All plans at all levels have been concluded to conduct the exercise in terms of logistics, medical supplies, consumables and data collecting tools.

“Lots of resources have been committed to Supplemental Immunisation Activities, Routine Immunisation, health camps and medical outreach all with an aim to reach out to all eligible children,” he said.

He appealed to parents and care givers to ensure that their children were not missed out of the exercise, to avoid being vulnerable.

Tsanyawa commended the collective efforts of stakeholders in the sector, saying that the efforts yielded results that Kano state had spent 64 months without a case of polio.

He, however, restated government’s commitment to the provision of quality healthcare to residents, through strengthening of the health care system in the state.

NAN reports that the state has confirmed receipt of 3.6 million vaccines from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency for the immunisation.
