PTAD establishes digital database for pensioners – Director

Madam Sharon Ikazor, the Director, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), says the organisation has established a digital database for pensioners to enhance its operations.

Ikazor who disclosed this at the ongoing 5-day pensioners’ verification exercise on Tuesday in Maiduguri, said the measure was to establish a comprehensive, accurate and reliable database for pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

She said the database would be used to eliminate duplicate payments; weed out ghost pensioners; regularise anomalies of over and under payments; obtain accurate work records and update of Next of Kin records.

Ikazor said the directorate have embarked on a nationwide verification exercise to correct, observe anomalies and streamline payment of pension and gratuities.

“The directorate did not inherit a credible pensioners’ database in spite of the many verification exercises conducted by defunct pension offices.

“There is urgent need to verify pensioners under the DBS, to resolve their complaints.

“The essence of digitising the employment records and bio-metrics of pensioners is to create a permanent database of their records and ensure that they are not asked to come out again for such detailed exercise,” she said.

Ikazor explained that the verification exercise was designed to capture retirees in 270 agencies, including tertiary education and health institutions and Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

Other agencies are Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Nigeria Postal Service (NPS), Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), Nigeria Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO), Nigerian National Shipping Line and Assurance Bank, among others.

Ikazor who inspected the exercise, commended the pensioners and the workers over the orderliness and smooth conduct of the exercise.

Some of the pensioners lauded the agency over prompt payment of pension and gratuities to them.

Messrs Ismail Ali and Bukar Alhaji, both retirees, said that the agency had addressed anomalies and sanitised pension administration in the country.
