Rotary Club offers free medical treatment to 100 people in Ibadan



The Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro, in collaboration with Yeye Funmi Layinka Foundation, on Tuesday offered free medical treatment to more than 100 people in Ibadan metropolis.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that the services rendered included tests for the eyes, fasting blood sugar, malaria and hepatitis-B while insecticide-treated mosquito nets were distributed.

Addressing newsmen during the one-day medical outreach, the President of the Club, Mrs Bisi Yomi-Layinka, said the programme was to assist people who may not be able to afford high hospital bill.

Yomi-Layinka said the treatment was for all categories of people within Ibadan metropolis and was free of charge.

She said that qualified medical doctors, nurses and laboratory scientists were on ground to attend to the people.

Yomi-Layinka added that there was enough supply of drugs for the treatment of various illnesses.

The president said that those that could not be treated during the outreach period would be referred to a qualified hospital.

Rotary club is an international organisation that is into humanitarian services and has to embark on different programmes like education, vocational training, empowerment and visitation to orphanage among others,’’ Yomi-Layinka said.

On her part, Mrs Funmi Layinka, founder of the foundation, said the foundation was set up in 2018 to assist the youths.

Layinka said the foundation collaborated with the club on the medical outreach because it had passion to assist the less privileged.

She called on people to check their health status as many die because they do not know their health status.

While declaring the programme open, Mrs Kehinde Oyebode, Deputy Director, Oyo State Ministry of Health, said health was very important and nobody was spared of any sicknesses.

She appreciated the organiser of the programme and called on the people of Oyo State to embrace it.

One of the beneficiaries, Awoyemi Raphael, who came for the eye test, commended the foundation for organising the free medical outreach.
