Salaries and wages commission partners relevant stakeholders for effective performance

National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission says it is collaborating with major stakeholders for effective implementation of its mandate; being hub for determining fair compensation package through employee productivity and ability to pay.

A statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mr Emma Njoku, Chief Press Secretary of the commission, quoted Mr Ekpo Nta, the Acting Chairman of the Commission, as disclosing this at a three-day Management Retreat held in Calabar.

Njoku also said that at the retreat, a five- year Strategic Action Plan was developed for national salaries, incomes and wages commission to ensure proper service delivery.

According to him, the proposed strategic action plan is aimed at reviewing the extent of implementation of the commission’s mandates and exploring fresh strategies required to address emerging challenges facing the 21st century workforce.

The acting chairman noted that the commission had in the past two decades, made very valuable contributions to compensation packages and policies in Nigeria.

Nta also noted that the Commission was planning a National Conference and Zonal Workshops on the implementation of the National Minimum Wage.

In his remarks, the guest of honour, Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau, Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and public Service said the mandates of the commission had become very strategic in addressing the needs of the nation’s work force.

Shekarau said the idea of collaborating with some major stakeholders in the proposed National Conference was key as it would address the plight of the people in the rural areas.

He also noted that the issue of giving autonomy to local government areas would reduce poverty at the grassroots.
