Saleswoman docked for allegedly stealing from supermarket



A 24-year-old saleswoman, Victoria Omomite, on Friday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly stealing items worth N114,300 from a supermarket that employed her.

The defendant, who lives at 23, United Estate, Ajah Lagos, was charged with theft  but she pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo, the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 4, at 2:00p.m. at Blenco Supermarket, Sangotedo, Ajah, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant stole hair extension, perfumes and hair serum, all valued  N114, 300, from Blenco Supermarket.

The prosecutor told the court that management of the supermarket suspected her and  ordered a search on her during which the items were found in her bag.

He noted that  stealing from one’s employer   contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,  and attracts  seven years’ imprisonment.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. M. Olumide-Fusika, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until Feb. 1 for mention.
