Security arrangement intact in Enugu despite polls’shift —-Police




Enugu, Feb. 16, 2019 (NNN) The Police Command in Enugu State says that election security arrangement still remained intact in the state in spite of postponement.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NNN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday shifted Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections till next week Feb. 23.

The governorship and house of assembly, FCT area council elections have also been shifted from March 2 to March 9.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, confirmed the shift of the presidential elections in his read out press release, citing logistic and operational challenges.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu, told NNN in Enugu that the state generally was peaceful and clam even after the announcement of the postponement by INEC.

“The state is still very calm and we are carrying out our normal security duties.

“The existing election security arrangement have to remain intact since we only have few days to the new date of the Presidential/ National Assembly elections,’’ he said.

He urged the residents to go about their normal businesses and activities of the day.

“Members of the public are once more advised to go about their normal lawful businesses and to feel free as security has been provided against mischief makers and their groups.
