Security guard in court over alleged burglary, stealing

A security guard, Abayomi Solomon, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly burgling a shop and stealing goods valued at N450,000.

Solomon, 45, who resides at Computer Village, Ikeja is being tried for conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Mr Akeem Raji, told the court that the offences were committed on July 29 at Oshitelu Street, Ikeja.

Raji said that the defendant was the security guard in charge of the complex, where the burglary occurred.

The prosecutor said the guard could not explain how the burglary happened, although he was at the complex on the night the incident happened.

“The shop was burgled and some goods were stolen.

“The items stolen, include 10 new laptops, all valued at N450, 000 and property of Mr Adeniyi Ajibola,” he said.

Raji said the defendant was arrested because he was on night duty the day the offence was committed and could not explain how it happened.

According to the prosecutor the offences violate Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Layinka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Layinka adjourned the case until Oct. 29 for mention. (NAN)
