Sports Ministry trains Games Masters on new volleyball skills in Kaduna

Volleyball coaches and Games Master on Thursday began a five-day skills development training in Kaduna, organised by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the participants, drawn from the seven states in the North-West would be drilled by an expert, Tony Nguma, from now till June 16.

Musa Nimrod, President, Nigeria Volleyball Federation, said the clinic is to develop skills and confidence of the participants as part of efforts to promote the game in the zone.

” I am happy because everyday I see development in volleyball in the country,” he said and pledged that the federation would come up with more programmes.

He said that the federation had completed negotiations with MIKASA to supply original balls at reasonable price.

Nimrod said that the participants should use the opportunity to develop themselves and their states, as well as and start online training for others.

” I appeal to you to use the privilege because at the last beach course North-west went with the highest contingent.”

Ibrahim Yakubu, Kaduna State Director of Sports, expressed appreciation for the programme and advised the participants to translate what they learn in promoting the game of volleyball at the grassroots.

” Organizing competitions or clinics like this will improve sports in the zone and that game masters and coaches are able to schedule time and participate in an event like this, is a good thing for sports development in zone, ” he said.

Nguma, the training facilitor said,  at the end of the five days, the hope is to get the coaches and games masters “to go home with useful, usable skills and Information that will immediately and positively affect the quality of volleyball at the grassroots.”

In his remark, Olusola Luke, the ministry’s Zonal Coordinator, expressed delight on the number of participants that turned up for the clinic.

Luke assured that the ministry would give all federations the necessary support to develop sports in the country.
