Strike

Nsukka (Enugu State ) Dec 17, 2018(NNN) The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Chapter, has joined a three- day warning strike declared by its national body.

Mr Paul Eruah, UNN Chairman of the association, made the disclosure in Nsukka on Monday while briefing newsmen after an emergency congress of the association.

Eruah said that the emergency congress was to brief members and carry out the directive of the national executive to embark on the warning strike from Dec.17 to Dec. 20.

“The warning strike is to remind Federal Government to pay N8b to offset earned allowances owed to non-academic staff of public universities.

“Government should integrate university staff primary school workers into university payroll, in compliance with industrial court judgment of Dec 5, 2016.

“Following the 35th regular National Executive Council meeting held at Enugu State University of Science and Technology, NEC authorized all the branch chapters to embark on three days strike and peaceful protest.

“Our peaceful protest is to tell the federal government that SSANU is dissatisfied for not obeying the memorandum we reached with it,” he said.

NNN reports that SSANU members numbering about 2,000 marched peacefully within the campus after the emergency congress.

Some of the placards were bearing different inscriptions such as; `President Buhari prove to Nigerians that you are still in charge’, `Pay us our money’ `Give us our N8billion now’.

Others read `Disburse our allowance now’, `Our members are hungry’ and `SSANU hates strike, FG don’t push us to it’. (NNN)
