Stakeholders from 45 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and government agencies in Plateau have met to fashion out ways of managing and mitigating all forms of disaster in the state.

The meeting held on Thursday in Jos was at the instance of Christian Aid, an international NGO.

Declaring the meeting open, Mr Bamidele Fagbide, the Senior Programme Coordinator in charge of Disaster Management and Peace Building in the Organisation, said the meeting aimed at developing mechanisms that would support disaster management in the state

Fagbide lamented that coordination had been a serious challange among CSOs working on diaster management in the state, hence the need for synergy.

“The task of managing and mitigating disaster is collective one, but often time during emergencies the responses of CSOs and other stakeholders are mostly lopsided.

“This is because there is no coordination among key humanitarian actors in the state and we mostly miss the points.

“As far as disaster management and mitigation in Plateau are concerned, there is a huge gap still existing

“So, we have called this meeting to enable us as key stakeholders to brainstorm and fashion out best ways to close existing gaps,” he said.

He said the collaboration would create platform for support to enable government ministries and agencies working in disaster management to deliver on their mandate.

Nigeria News Agency reports that the media, traditional and religious leaders, youths and women groups partook in the meeting
