Support executive on bills, ADP urges 9th NASS

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has urged the 9th National Assembly to support the Executive on bills that would help in economic development of the country and its citizens.

Alhaji Yabagi Sani, the party’s National Chairman gave the advice in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Sani while congratulating Sen. Ahmad Lawan and Mr Femi Gbajabiamila for emerging as Senate President and Speaker of the 9th National Assembly, said the assembly should guide the Executive on the right path.

“The National Assembly should be on alert to properly guide the executive led by President Muhammadu Buhari, to prevent excessive use of power or contravening of Constitutional provisions,” he said.

He added that there must be checks and balances because separation of powers detailed on how all arms of government must operate.

The ADP chairman said for peaceful assembly, all political parties that made the house composition must be treated fairly and be carried along.

He said there must not be winner takes it all, which is capable of bringing internal rancor and stiff opposition.

He expressed optimism that the new leadership of the National Assembly under Lawan and Gbajabiamila would not disappoint Nigerians.

He, however, urged Nigerians within and outside the country to be hopeful in the 9th assembly.

He also urged Nigerians to pray to God to guide members of the 9th assembly on the right path to enable them pass bills that would have life changing impact on all sectors of the economy.

Sani extolled the maturity of all members of the assembly for peaceful conduct of the election which brought in principal officers without fracas or clamp down by security forces.

The ADP national chairman charged both Lawan and Gbajabiamila to take the service of the nation and unity of the country as their priority.

He stressed that it is important to uphold the independence of the Senate and House of Representatives by not allowing in external forces to hijack their operation.

“National Assembly leaders owe all citizens of the country their loyalty, and must work hard to change the perception that is already created during the electioneering campaign,”he said.

According to him, the earlier perception is that the elected members of the 9th national assembly are out to do the bidding of their godfathers or whatever their parties push as agenda.

“The 8th assembly led by Sen. Bukola Saraki and Mr Yakubu Dogara has been adjudged as the best in recent times by Nigerians and credible organisations across the world.

“This is because the assembly was perceived to be independent of the executive’s grip, a standard has been set.

“And it is the hope and expectations of our party that the 9th assembly will do better in all ramifications,” he said.

He,however, pointed out that being independent doesn’t mean unnecessary rebellion to the  executive’s good initiatives and lofty ideas capable of bringing peace, progress and unity to the country.
