Sweden extends border controls until November

Border

“There remains a serious threat to public order and Sweden’s interior security,’’ the government said in a statement after its weekly session.

Sweden introduced the measures in November 2015, a year during which it registered a record 163,000 asylum bids, straining resources and capacity at reception centres and local municipalities.

It has since extended the measures several times.

Sweden said the six-month extension mirrors similar moves by Nordic neighbours Denmark and Norway.
