He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Prosecutor, Insp. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 4, at about 1:30 am. on Ijede road, Ikorodu.

Iberedem said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. F. Azeez, granted the defendant N5,000 bail, with one surety in like sum, and ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre for six months.

Azeez, who ordered that the reports on the defendant must be given to the court on monthly basis, adjourned the case till July 7, for mention.

The Nigerian News Agency reports Section 287 stipulates a three- year jail term for stealing, while Section 168 prescribes three months imprisonment or N15,000 fine, if found liable.
