Trader bags 3 months jail term for stealing recharge cards worth N330,000

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo, on Tuesday, sentenced a 23-year- old trader, Akeem Ali, to three months imprisonment in a Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Ilesa for stealing recharge cards worth N330,000.

Magistrate Mary Awodele sentenced Ali after he pleaded guilty to theft.

Awodele did not give the convict an option to pay a fine.

She ordered that the convict be put to jail in Ilesa correctional facilities, due to the magnitude of the offense committed.

Earlier, the Police prosecutor , Insp. Adeoye Kayode, told the court that the convict committed the offence on Jan. 12,  at about 2. 30a.m.,  at Okefia area, Osogbo .

Kayode said the convict stole an MP3 recorder, recharge cards of MTN, GLO, Etisalat and Zain, worth N330,000, belonging to a businessman, Okunola Olaide.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 383 and is punishable under Section 390 (B)(b) of the criminal code cap 34 vol.11,laws of Osun, 2002.
