Igwe Alphonsus Ofuebe of Ifite-Ogwari in Anambra has called on the Igbo across the globe to ensure peaceful co-existence among themselves to attract federal government’s attention to their grievances.

Ofuebe told Nigeria News Agency in Awka on Tuesday that without unity of purpose among the Igbo, their agitation would not be taken seriously.

The traditional ruler who condemned the Saturday attack on Sen. Ike Ekweremadu by the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) in Germany said such showed disunity among the race.

Ekweremadu, the senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, was said to have been attacked at Löwensaal am Tier Garten, Nuremberg, Germany venue for the annual New Yam Festival of the Igbo.

The former deputy senate president was billed to give a keynote address along with the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo.

“I am calling on all Igbo at home and abroad to ensure peace among themselves for our grievances to be taken seriously.

“A situation whereby some Igbo people abroad attacked a high ranking senator shows disunity among the race.

“In such matter, how can other tribes in Nigeria take us seriously in our demand for proper resource sharing in Nigeria,” he said.

He called for all hands to be on deck in the support for lasting peace to be enthroned in Nigeria.

“The problem Nigeria is facing today didn’t emanate from this present government, but it has been with us for long.

“Our President should be encouraged to do the right thing by suggestions that have ideas to bind us together as a nation rather than biased criticisms which will do us no good,” he said.
