UNICEF reaffirms support to PAN’s pneumonia control



The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reaffirmed its commitment to support the development of Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN’s) action on the implementation of the National Integrated Pneumonia Control Strategy and Implementation plan.

The UNICEF’s Chief Field Office, Kano, Mr Maulid Warfa, gave the assurance at the closing ceremony of the 51st Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of PAN in Kano on Friday.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that the conference, organised in collaboration with UNICEF, had its theme as: “The Impact of Rapid Population Growth on the Child”.

He said the measure was necessary so that “together we will create a world where no child dies from a preventable cause and all children reach their full potential in health and well-being”.

NAN also reports that the Minister of Health, Prof. Osagie Ehanire, had at the opening ceremony of the conference on Wednesday, said the Federal Government had developed pneumonia control strategy and implementation plan.

This, according to him, is part of government renewed efforts to ensure the survival and wellbeing of children in the country.

PAN will round up the annual conference with an Annual General Meeting and a dinner on Friday, which is the last item on the agenda of the conference.

The conference tagged:“The impact of rapid population growth on the child”, commenced on Tuesday with plenary sessions during which discussions were held on various topics on child health.

The conference was aimed at looking inward with a view to strategising and producing rational and implementable solutions to some of the problems affecting the lives of the children in the country.

NAN also reports that participants were drawn from within and outside the country.
