Katsina Branch of Nigerian Butchers Association (NIBA) has called on the state government to rehabilitate the dilapidated abattoir in the area to prevent the production of unwholesome meat.
Secretary of the association, Alh. Musa Kallah, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Katsina on Monday.
“The abattoir was constructed more than 35 years ago by the defunct Kaduna state during the military regime.
“The abattoir needed upgrading and rehabilitating in order to provide hygiene meat to Katsina citizens.
“We are calling on the state government to refurbish all the facilities in the abattoir that had broken down over the years.
“We want government to also provide two additional boreholes for the smooth operation of the place,’’ he said.
Kallah said that the association had been keeping the abattoir clean to prevent meat poisoning.
“We are an important segment of the society that provides the needed protein to the general public.
“Because of our important position the state government should hasten and help us with modern facilities,” he stated.
