Vietnam’s central tourism city to start social distancing over COVID-19 outbreak

Local authorities of Vietnam’s central Quang Nam province have ordered a 14-day social distancing in its tourism city Hoi An starting from Friday to tackle the COVID-19 epidemic, Vietnam News Agency reported on Thursday.

The move came after Da Nang, a neighboring city of Hoi An, reported a number of COVID-19 cases in the community since July 25 after going through nearly 100 days without any local cases. The resurgence of cases was followed by social distancing measures from Tuesday.

Under the social distancing order, people in Hoi An are required to stay at home and only go out for essential purposes as well as keep a distance of at least 2 meters from each other, according to the report.

Gatherings of more than two people in public places except for workplace, schools and hospitals, are banned while wearing face masks is a must, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The city also halts a range of activities including cultural, sports, religious, exhibition events and stops operation of public transport except for special cases, according to the report.

Vietnam has recorded a total of 459 cases of COVID-19 with zero deaths reported as of Thursday morning, said the Ministry of Health.
