We’ll work with executive, stakeholders to develop sports — Kwara Speaker

The Speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly, Mr Issa Danladi, said on Thursday that the house would collaborate with sports stakeholders and the executive arm of government to ensure sports development in the state.

Danladi stated this in Ilorin at a reception for four teams that made the state proud at national football tournaments in the country.

Represented by the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Mr Ayokunle Awolola, the Speaker commended the management of the four teams for being good ambassadors of the state.

According to him, football is the fastest growing religion in the world today, which does not need any sermon before people follow it tenaciously.

Danladi promised that the house would enact laws that would support the development and growth of sports in the state.

In his remarks, the state’s FA Chairman, Malam Idris Musa, said the body would explore the potential of football as tools for economic development, tourism and investment promotion.

He said the association would promote football to put Kwara on the global map of sports tourism.

Musa, noted that football was a catalyst for unity, panacea for youth restiveness and platform for employment.

He stated that the state appreciated the role of sports in national development, which informed the decision of the association to host the teams.

Musa praised the players and stakeholders for their dogged determination, dedication and sacrifice while also charging them to sustain and build on the momentum they had created.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Shuaib Akanbi, implored football stakeholders to join hands in the discovery and development of budding talents.

Akanbi appreciated the four teams for acheiving a remarkable feat in various competitions and promised that the state government would give the needed support and recognition to stakeholders and players.

Nigeria News Agency reports that Kwara Football Academy which was one of teams hosted, won a national U-14 competition in Ibadan recently alongside Moje Queens, a female team in Kwara.
