The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara for nominating a 26-year-old National Youth Service Corps member, Joan Kolo, to become a Commissioner in his cabinet.
The council’s President, Mr Oladele Nihi, made the commendation in Lokoja on Wednesday.
”On behalf of the over 70 million Nigerian youths, I wish to sincerely appreciate Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for nominating a 26-year-old Joana Nnazua Kolo as a commissioner in his cabinet.
”I have just been reliably informed that Kolo, a 26 years old lady, is one of the commissioner nominees, whose names were sent to the Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
”We express our profound gratitude to His Excellency, Gov. Abdulrazaq for giving the youth a chance to serve the people of the state in the capacity of commissioner,” Nihi said.
He called on other state governors to emulate the Governors of Kwara and Oyo states by appointing more youths in their cabinets.
According to him, youths can only be leaders of tomorrow when they are given opportunities to learn today.
”It is popularly said that youths are the leaders of tomorrow, but how well are they expected to lead tomorrow, if they are not given opportunities to learn today,” he said.
The president enjoined the nominee , Joana Kolo , and other youths in various elective and appointive positions to make the best use of the opportunities given to them.
He also advised them to see their positions as a litmus test for them to showcase the leadership qualities in young Nigerians.
