Coach Musa Bashiru of Black Gold Queens club on Thursday in Abuja expressed happiness that his team finished on a high in the 15th Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League second phase.
The coach said, after his team beat Nasarawa Amazons on the final day of competition in Abuja, that they would now return to the drawing board for the future.
The Nigeria News Agency reports that Black Gold Queens beat the Nasarawa Amazons, with the winners taking the lead from the game’s first quarter which they won 26-8.
“We were so confident of today’s win. But this is our first appearance in the league and we have been performing at our best pace, winning four games out of seven games in this phase of league. So, I feel
very very happy about our win today,’’ Bashiru said.
He however claimed that his team was a very young side that would still need time to evolve.
“We have so many young players in the team, with the oldest among them being 21, and we still performed well in the league and now we are finishing fourth on the log.
“And I am sure that by the next edition of this league we will be better. We will be more prepared than this and I am sure we will excel,’’ the coach said.
Bashiru said the secret of their performance was teamwork, consistency and hardwork.
“It is in view of this that I will implore all my players to keep on and stay on this level, so that we can have a better position in the next edition of this league.’’
